Awesome combination move by the Belgien freestyler Steven van Broeckhoven…
Airfunnel into Double Puneta by Steven van Broeckhoven B-72.
Once you have the basic building blocks of windsurf freestyle, combination moves (albeit a little more straight forward than the above example!) start to become possible. The best way to start your windsurfing freestyle career is with plenty of light wind practice sessions. This is how you start to get the awareness & muscle memory for these advanced high wind freestyle moves. Practice, practice & more practice in the light winds & your whole windsurfing game will be taken to new levels!
Light wind ‘muscle memory’ practice really applies to any windsurfing skill you are trying to master, whether its a tack, carve gybe, harness or anything else, the majority of any skill can be learnt in light winds.
The 2011 season is well under way now here at Poole Windsurfing and we are super happy with all the new equipment we have for you all to use this coming summer. Brand new intermediate windsurf boards, a full range of new 2011 advanced sails, new carbon RDM masts, all new fleet of Amex booms, new Billabong wetsuits – the list goes on! Basically, we have only the best top end windsurfing equipment at the Poole Windsurf School. Add to this our years of teaching experience & the fact that we are dedicated solely to windsurf tuition and equipment rental and you have yourself the perfect windsurfing training centre!
Not to blow our own trumpet but we have been getting so many really nice comments back from students who have been on our windsurfing lesson or hired windsurfing kit recently that we wanted to included just a few of them here. Plus there is not space to put all the great feedback we get on our Testimonials Page…
Opting for the Poole Windsurfing beginners course, they took me swiftly through what components make up a windsurfer (sail, mast, dagger board etc.) and the first steps of getting on to the board and sailing out and being able to turn round again (the latter I gather is more settling on the instructor’s stomach).
What I found was that, having been shown how to do everything properly the whole process of pulling the sail up and sailing was no longer a string of back-breaking terror-filled disasters but actually quite relaxing and relatively toll-free on the body. I did flop off a few times, some funnier than others, but soon got the point where I actually felt comfortable on the board and reasonably well in control. We went on to cover some turns and even tried a couple of tricks which challenged me, albeit in a good way.
The highlight of the lesson was surfing on the bow wave from one of the cross channel ferries – actually surfing! Something I felt would have been weeks away from my first lesson.
I couldn’t recommend Poole Windsurfing more, especially since their independent status means they are purely there to teach windsurfing with no other commercial bias.

Just to let you know what a great time Bethany had today. She is now watching windsurfing videos on Youtube.. will be in touch soon to organise another lesson for Bethany, and maybe for me too – yes – a water-phobe may be talked into having a go! Thanks again and see you soon.

Thanks for the lessons Erin and I had a brilliant weekend, really looking forward to getting some kit off you and having some practise.

Its great to hear back such positive comments from so many of our windsurfing students. We work hard at providing the best possible experience on our windsurfing lessons and when renting windsurf equipment from us.
Hosts of the BBC Radio Solent H2O Show, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston (the first person to sail single handed and non-stop around the world) and Shelley Jory-Leigh (British Powerboat Racer) chat to Terril Winters (Senior Windsurfing Instructor) from Poole Windsurfing about just how easy it is to learn how to windsurf.
Find out the best way to learn how to windsurf, hear what ingredients make for a top windsurfing location & know when to get out there on the water.
Windsurfing is a great sport for everyone to enjoy!
