Siam Park Tenerife PWA 2014 – Expression Session

A phenomenal conclusion to another brilliant PWA event in Tenerife as the elite of the wave sailing world headed to Siam Park for the Dunkerbeck Eyewear tow-in exhibition.

The action which followed was nothing short of remarkable as the sailors delivered a jaw dropping display, much to the appreciation of the crowd. The evening featured painful looking crashes, near misses with the wall, but also some of the craziest rotations we’ve ever seen as the world’s best pushed the limits of the sport once more with the assistance of a jetski.

After an intense qualifying process for the final – consisting of 3 attempts each, with the top 2 different jumps to count – the initial field was eventually narrowed down to the top 3 who advanced into the final featuring Ricardo Campello, Robby Swift and Leon Jamaer.

Campello had looked in supreme form in qualifying and he continued his remarkable performance in the final to storm to an emphatic victory. The Brazilian effortlessly wowed the crowds and was visibly impressed with his own performance as he rotated through crazy paskos, shaka into pushloops and pushloops into shakas to keep Robby Swift and Leon Jamaer at bay, as the two teammates had to settle for second and third respectively.

The Main Tenerife PWA World Cup Event Summary: Tenerife delivers again as Philip Köster and Daida Moreno are crowned the champions

For the fourth successive year El Médano delivered fantastic wind and waves for the 2014 Dunkerbeck-Eyewear Siam Park Tenerife PWA World Cup as the elite of the wave sailing world delivered an enthralling show. By the end of a fascinating week, which saw a nail biting conclusion to both the men’s and women’s divisions as two super finals were required to decide the overall victor. In the end Philip Köster (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) and Daida Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) claimed the prestigious honour of being crowned the champions of El Médano.

Men’s

Philip Köster continued his dominance of El Cabezo as he upheld his unbeaten record, which now spans an incredible four years. The German, who is looking to regain his PWA wave world title, looked backed to his brilliant best, but was still pushed all the way by Thomas Traversa (Tabou / GA Sails). However, Köster found the additional gear which was required to succeed as he claimed he continued his dominance of Tenerife to move back up to second overall in the world – keeping his title aspirations alive.

Philip Köster back on top of the prestigious podium:

“I didn’t land my double planing, but it was a good one and a solid start to the heat, I also got my best wave of the contest in the super final so I was super happy. It feels great to win again and I’m super stoked.”

Women’s

Daida Moreno made it two event victories out of two as the reigning world champion dug deep to steal the event title from the arms of Iballa Moreno (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins), by forcing a super final, which she went on to win after landing a superb one-handed backloop and demonstrating aggressive and vertical riding in the waves.

Daida Moreno makes it two out of two:

“Today has been amazing for me. I had a lot of fun sailing and I felt great out there. The wind was good, the waves were good and I just went with the flow, trying to have fun and forget about the nerves. I was pretty calm – I used the tactic of trying to make sure I got a jump in the bag at the beginning. After I got my jump done I just focused on my wave riding. Before the final I changed up, which I’m really happy about because it let me go more vertical in my turns. I love this spot and I think I proved myself as a wave rider as well. I’m super happy to win here again.”
