Défi Wind 2019

Over the years, the French event has gained an almost legendary status for itself. Because of its reputation, Défi Wind 2019 has gathered nearly 1200 entries to participate in the mass race extravaganza, joining windsurfers from far and wide.

Highlights from Défi Wind 2019, Gruissan: by

Despite the temperamental nature of the Tramontana wind, the 25 knots have provided enough of a push to allow over 900 contestants to make it to the finish line. When compared to the past editions, this is the highest number in the history of the race!

The competitive scene was dominated by French riders, with Nicolas Warembourg taking the victory, making his way through the titanic race spanning over 50 miles of Gruissan’s coast. Warembourg is a recurring champion of the race and was committed to bringing the trophy home again. As he reported in an interview for Surfer Today:

“I did it again! It was six months of preparation, training, sweat, and questioning in order to achieve this result,”

The first place among women was taken by a long time favourite of the crowds, Delphine Cousin.

For Cousin, the race was just a warm up! Following the race, Delphine has big plans for the rest of the season:

 I will now rest after two months of competition, and then focus on the preparation of the rest of the season!”
